Yanchep Golf Estate Sun City Pro Am 2012 announced

Everyone loves watching the Professionals come to town and take on their favourite golf course in ways we can only dream of.  For 2012, that chance comes with the move of our previous October event back into the prestigious May Circuit on Wednesday the 16th of that month.

Our thanks to major sponsors the Yanchep Golf Estate, as introduced by Peet Limited with whom we have enjoyed warm and positive negotiations over mutual benefits arising from the 5 km of boundary we share!

Entry forms will be released in the next few days, but members can already be looking forward to a gala event with am and pm fields, both winding up with cocktail food and great prizes;  each field has its own amateur presentation while the $10k Professional purse is decided as a whole-day event.

Further details of the event can be found on the PGA Website.

Reticulation Project takes Sun City into a new era

Sun City Country Club entered a new era in 2012 with the switch being thrown on her new state-of-the-art reticulation system. While not officially opened, the new system is running 100% off a new Western Power transformer which has also enhanced the surrounding street power nearby.

While still in commissioning mode with a number of tasks to complete, the system is now delivering its full pressure and watering automatically, almost entirely at off-peak electricity rates.

First thanks must go to the visionary personnel of the General Committee and the special purpose Reticulation Committee led by Peter Karhu and instrumental in its original specification.

Congratulations too to all trades concerned, from Water Dynamics who created the first design to Total Eden who fine-tuned and installed the system and Toro whose equipment was used.

Unwavering through a very broad array of testing issues and diversions was our own Course Super Brad Anderson, his Two IC Tim Chape - himself a veteran of several major reconstruction projects - and all of our diligent grounds staff who have been equally accommodating.

Thanks guys.

Meanwhile it is very pleasing how many tributes are flowing through on the condition of the course as it recovers so rapidly from the nerve-wracking time when the winter grasses
started to turn up their toes.

As a trememdous side benefit, the dead winter grasses are being overrun faster than you can say CY O'Connor (right) leaving a much more consistent surface to play off. Enjoy!

Fixtures 2012

Please note, the new fixtures for 2012 are now available online from this link and hardback versions will be available in the clubhouse and proshop within a few days.

This version supercedes last year's fixture book which should now be checked for any variations.

Please also note that our local Fixtures Book this year does not include external GolfWA events.  That calendar is available here.

Background: The Reticulaton Project

After more than a year of planning and implementation, the new reticulation has been put through its full paces , with all three main pumps operational

Recent commissioning of the new pumps demonstrates the true potential of the new system, which will now deliver 30 minutes of water per day to all of the course with state-of-the-art efficiency, in contrast to the 10 minutes being delivered in recent weeks.  Ultimately this is a springboard to an era of superb, consistent ground conditions.

Below is a before and after sequence of the fairways at Wembley Golf Course following their own upgrade six years ago. Another major benefit of the new system is the time gained for our greens team under Brad Anderson to concentrate on refined conditioning of the course instead of ongoing equipment failures from the old system. Click here for more information about the Reticulation project.

The project has not gone without its fair share of ups and downs and even now, the system is runnning on a temporary diesel generator while Western Power prepares to install a new transformer for the club and the surrounding neighbourhood.

In fact it was the later arrival on the scene of Peet Limited, who approached the club to cooperate with a number of development issues including the close alignment of the course to the line of its boundaries, which caused us to consider a new design of the course and hence hold up the routing of the reticulation.  And so was born the other monumental project for 2011, the Master Plan by Geoff Ogilvy and Mike Clayton.

Today's unveiling represents the end of a tense wait and the start of a great new era at Sun City.
